Frequently Asked Questions About Our Garage Door Work

Answers on service area, repairs, and limits for Cleveland Garage Door Co, covering Cleveland, TN and nearby towns within about 20 miles. Call 423-275-5106.

How far out from Cleveland do you go?

We cover a radius running from East Cleveland at about 2 miles out to Sale Creek around 19 miles, including Hopewell, South Cleveland, Wildwood Lake, Benton, Ooltewah, Collegedale, Lakesite, Harrison, Soddy-Daisy, and Middle Valley in between. The farther towns in that range may mean a next-day slot instead of same-day, depending on the day's schedule.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

Not for spring or cable repairs. We need to see the door to know spring size and door weight, which decide the parts and the job. We can talk through general ranges on the phone, but the firm number comes after we've looked at it.

Do you work on older garage doors?

Yes. A lot of the houses in this area were built between 1967 and 2004, with a concentration in the 1980s and 90s, so most of our calls are on doors and openers from that window. We stock parts sized for that era of hardware.

Why does my spring keep breaking in winter?

This area sits in a moderate cold climate band, and cold air stiffens springs and adds resistance the opener has to pull against. A spring near the end of its life is more likely to fail when that extra strain hits it in winter than in warmer months.

Will you tell me if I need a whole new door instead of a repair?

Yes, and we'd rather tell you that upfront than run up a repair bill on a door that's not worth saving. If the panel damage or the age of the opener means repair costs are chasing a dying system, we'll say so plainly.

The Areas We Cover

We run out of Cleveland, TN, at 3855 N Ocoee St, and most of our calls come from inside a short drive of that shop. East Cleveland is about 2 miles out, Hopewell and South Cleveland sit around 5 miles away, and Wildwood Lake is roughly 6 miles. We also take calls from Benton (12 miles), Ooltewah and Collegedale (13 miles each), Lakesite (15 miles), Harrison (16 miles), and out to Soddy-Daisy, Middle Valley, and Sale Creek between 18 and 19 miles.

The farther out we go, the fewer same-day slots we can offer, simply because of drive time. If you're closer to the 15-to-19-mile range, it's worth asking on the phone whether we can get to you today or whether it's a next-day job. We don't cover ground past Sale Creek or outside this stretch of towns, so if you're well beyond that ring, we're not the right call.

One thing that matters across this whole service area: housing here was mostly built between 1967 and 2004, with a lot of it going up in the 1980s and 90s. That means we see a consistent run of openers and door hardware from that era, which helps us carry the right parts on the truck instead of guessing.

The Work We Take On

  1. We work on broken torsion and extension springs

Cables that have jumped the drum, bent or dented panels, rollers that have worn out their bearings, and tracks knocked out of alignment. We also handle opener repair and replacement, including the drive systems common to houses built in the 1980s and 90s, which make up a lot of the stock across the 12 communities we serve. Cold-weather issues come up regularly here since this area sits in a moderate cold climate band - stiff springs in winter, openers that struggle to pull a door that's picked up extra resistance from the cold, and weatherstripping that's shrunk and let the gap open at the bottom.

  2. We also do new door installs for homeowners replacing a door that's past repairing

And we'll tell you honestly when that's the better option versus patching an old one. Given that median household income across the service area runs around $64,756 and most owners are in older housing stock rather than new builds, a lot of our work is repair and part replacement rather than full system swaps. We carry parts sized for the kind of hardware you'll find in a house built in the 80s or 90s, which is most of what we're called out to.

What We Will Not Do

We don't install or service gates, fences, or anything outside the garage door and opener itself. We don't do general handyman work, and we won't quote a repair over the phone without seeing the door - torsion spring jobs especially depend on spring size and door weight, and guessing that wrong from a phone call is how people get hurt or overcharged.

We also won't push a repair on a door that's cheaper to replace. If a panel is bent past straightening or the opener is original to a house built in the 1960s or 70s and parts for it are no longer made, we'll say so instead of stacking repair after repair on it.

We don't travel outside the towns listed above. If you're calling from somewhere past Sale Creek or outside this stretch between Cleveland and the surrounding communities, we're honest that it's outside our drive radius, even if we'd like the job.
